Slots available in Washington, Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks
U.S. Sen. Mark Begich is accepting applications for summer internships in his Washington, D.C. office and in the Alaska offices. There are seven spaces available, four in Washington, D.C., and one each in Anchorage, Juneau and Fairbanks. The internships run from June 8 - August 6.
Interns work in a variety of areas supporting the Begich staff including researching Alaska issues, working with legislative staff on congressional issues, helping with constituent cases and inquiries, and attending meetings and briefings.
Interns are college-age and the goal is to have the students work regular office hours from 9 am-6 pm, but accommodations can be made to work with class schedules.
"It is an honor to host young Alaskans in my offices and help them grow personally and professionally," Begich said. "I am continually impressed by the work ethic and capabilities of the Alaskans who join my office. I look forward to introducing a new group of interns to the U.S. Senate this summer."
Since starting an intern program in May 2009, the offices of Sen. Begich have hosted 21 interns in three groups. Interns have gone on to pursue higher education, find employment in Washington D.C. and join Sen. Begich's staff.
Interns are offered a small stipend for their service. Applicants need to fill out an online application and submit a cover letter and writing sample by the close of business AKST on March 19. The online application is available at: http://begich.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=InternshipApplication.
