House Passes HB 73, License Plates for Firefighters & Emergency Medical Services Personnel
Bill designates special license plates for
Emergency services personnel, firefighters
Friday, March 19, 2010, Juneau, Alaska – The Alaska State House unanimously passed House Bill 73 today, designating special license plates for firefighters and emergency medical service providers.
The bill intends to honor firefighters and emergency medical service providers by offering specially-designed license plates. Volunteer, paid, active and former personnel would qualify to receive the plates. The bill also hopes to highlight the importance of volunteerism in Alaska by recognizing and acknowledging these individuals. “Hopefully, this can inspire and encourage others to also volunteer their time,” said bill sponsor Rep. Bob Lynn, R-Anchorage.
“When a firefighter or EMS provider goes to work, they could lose their life. They could save a life,” Lynn said. “That’s special. The least we can do is make these special license plates available to these special people.”
HB 73 now heads to the Alaska State Senate for consideration.
