House Passes Bill Extending Mechanic's Lien Filing 30 days - Ramras' HB 253

Ramras’ HB 253 pushes out deadline from 90 to 120 days

Friday, March 26, 2010, Juneau, Alaska – The Alaska State House today unanimously passed House Bill 253, legislation extending the deadline for mechanics to file Mechanic’s Liens from 90 days to 120 days. House Judiciary Chair Jay Ramras, R-Fairbanks, sponsored the bill.

“HB 253 came to me from a concerned Fairbanks contractor, and makes good business sense,” Ramras said. “Extending the filing deadline for the liens lets contractors, mechanics or material suppliers work with property owners to secure payment or negotiate a reasonable payment, avoiding a severe remedy.”

HB 253 now heads to the Alaska State Senate for consideration.
