House Passes Motor Carrier Indemnification Bill

(Juneau) - The Alaska State House today unanimously passed House Bill
366, legislation promoting safety and fairness in business contract
indemnity agreements. House Resources Committee Co-Chair Craig
Johnson, R-Anchorage, sponsored the bill.

"HB 366 holds the responsible person responsible," Johnson said.
"Right now in Alaska law, businesses can contract away their
responsibility, pushing the responsibility onto the contractor. This
goes to the core values of business - if an accident happens where
both parties are equally responsible they should both be held
accountable. The bill protects businesses and will promote fairness in
contract indemnity."

House Passes Bill Extending Mechanic's Lien Filing 30 Days

(Juneau) - The Alaska State House today unanimously passed House Bill
253, legislation extending the deadline for mechanics to file
Mechanic's Liens from 90 days to 120 days. House Judiciary Chair Jay
Ramras, R-Fairbanks, sponsored the bill.

"HB 253 came to me from a concerned Fairbanks contractor, and makes
good business sense," Ramras said. "Extending the filing deadline for
the liens lets contractors, mechanics or material suppliers work with
property owners to secure payment or negotiate a reasonable payment,
avoiding a severe remedy.

Neuman Applauds Dept. of Defense Syn-Fuels Initiative

(Juneau) - House Resources Committee Co-Chair Mark Neuman,
R-Su-Valley, today applauded the federal government's efforts to
secure a commitment from the State of Alaska to build an alternative
fuel production facility in Alaska.

"I'd like to thank the DLA's Mark Iden for re-opening the dialogue on
creating a value-added gas industry in Alaska," Neuman said. "The
Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative provides an anchor
tenant to an in-state or large diameter gas pipeline, and can position
the state as a leader in the aviation fueling industry. The road to
development and production will be a long one, but I am hopeful and
prepared to continue working with the Parnell Administration and DLA
advocating for Alaska's selection."
