Health Care Career Fair Set for April 21 in Anchorage

JUNEAU, Alaska—Alaskans interested in health care and human services jobs can get information from more than 60 employers at an Anchorage career fair on Wednesday, April 21.

The Healthcare and Human Services Career Fair will be 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Muldoon Mall, 1251 Muldoon Road. The career fair is a cooperative project of Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Alaska State Hospital and Nursing Home Association, and the Alaska Alliance for Direct Service Careers.

“Health care is one of only a few industries that is still expanding in Alaska,” Labor and Workforce Commissioner Click Bishop said. “Health care and human-services industry providers will be on hand to offer employment and training opportunities to Alaskans.”

Health care industry jobs include registered nurses, home health aides, personal and home care aides, emergency medical technicians and paramedics, medical assistants, and mental health and substance abuse social workers.

According to the Alaska Department of Labor’s Research and Analysis Section, the health care and social assistance industry sector is projected to outperform most other industries with a 24.8 percent rate of growth in new jobs from 2006 to 2016. In addition to the new jobs projected, there is expected to be additional job openings occurring as a result of replacing workers who change occupations, retire or leave the labor force for various reasons.

Free employer registration for the fair is available through the Business Connection at 907-269-4777.
