Governor Signs Bill Honoring Purple Heart Recipients
March 22, 2010, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today signed legislation that will establish August 7 as Purple Heart Day in Alaska. The Purple Heart is awarded to members of the United States armed forces who have been wounded or killed in battle.
“It is a great privilege to sign this legislation to honor those who have received the Purple Heart,” Governor Parnell said. “Purple Heart Day will be a reminder of the men and women who have served our nation with honor and valor and put their lives in harm’s way for our freedom.”House Bill 274 was sponsored by Representatives Nancy Dahlstrom and Berta Gardner. Senators Charlie Huggins and Bill Wielechowski and Representative Bill Thomas were also instrumental in the passage of the legislation.
