Free Tax Help Available for Taxpayers at 34 sites Throughout Alaska

~ AARP Foundation program is free ~

ANCHORAGE, AK -- AARP Tax-Aide, an AARP Foundation program, began in 1968 with only four volunteers who served 100 people that tax season. Today the AARP Tax-Aide program has attracted more than 34,600 volunteers and has helped over 47 million people file their tax returns.

During the 2008 tax season in Alaska, more than 6,000 returns were prepared by Tax-Aide volunteers statewide, resulting in more than $4.2 million in refunds and over $800,000 saved in tax preparation fees.

The Tax-Aide program is designed to prepare basic tax returns for most low and middle income taxpayers, with an emphasis on senior citizens and disabled taxpayers. Sites are staffed by volunteers trained by the Internal Revenue Service to prepare basic tax returns. Volunteers receive training on the Earned Income Credit and other personal tax credits. And the service is free.

Below are the dates and hours for the 34 sites throughout Alaska. Individuals may also find a nearby Tax Aide site by visiting www.aarp.org/taxaide.
