Chenega Corporation Consolidates Brand of its Hotel Properties
Anchorage, Alaska - March, 2010 - Three Anchorage Downtown hotels, owned by Chenega Commercial Holdings, LLC, underwent a transformation in October, 2009, emerging consolidated under a single brand with Choice Hotels International. As a result, what was formerly the Clarion Suites property is now Quality Suites, Convention Center; the former Hawthorn Suites is now the Clarion Suites, Downtown, and the Voyager Hotel has retained its name under the Rodeway Inn brand.
Chenega Commercial Holdings, LLC, (CCH) a subsidiary of Chenega Corporation, purchased the Clarion Suites and Hawthorn Suites in 2003 and 2004, respectively, as its first foray into Alaska's Hospitality Industry. In 2008 CCH expanded their portfolio of hotel properties with the acquisition of the Voyager hotel. All located in Downtown Anchorage, each is uniquely situated to serve both convention and business travelers as well as the tourist trade. Under the leadership of General Manager, Barbara Swenson, the hotels have consistently achieved global, national, statewide and local recognitions for their quality performance, community service and environmental excellence.
"Chenega Commercial Holdings has succeeded in developing our hotel product for its Chenega Shareholder owners, to consistently represent a quality experience," stated Dave Jensen, CCH President, "With the advent of our consolidated branding, each of the hotels have taken this experience to the next level, featuring Alaska Native art specific to the tribes of Prince William Sound and pictorial displays telling the unique Chenega Story".
"With all three properties on a single reservation system, we are widening the breadth of hotel property offerings among travelers allegiant to Choice Hotels International brand, and significantly enhancing our ability to train our team members across all three properties", shared Barbara Swenson, "additionally, this change gives us the opportunity to reinvent the hotels in the eyes of the industry and the community with an emphasis on its unique Alaska Native ownership".
A ribbon cutting ceremony and industry celebration recognizing this change took place January 28th, 2010, at the Clarion Suites, Downtown.
