Alaska State Parks Seeking Part-time Volunteer Event Coordinator
(Anchorage, AK) – Alaska State Parks is seeking a part-time volunteer event coordinator for the Chugach 40th Anniversary Celebration Event. The term of the assignment is April 1, 2010 until August 15, 2010 (actual term and working hours are flexible). This is a volunteer position only, no salary but you can work from home and/or the Anchorage State Parks office. Applications are due March 25, 2010.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in event planning and organization, fund raising, logistics coordination, public relations and related tasks. Experience working with non-profit corporations would be particularly valuable. Candidates should be self-motivated, well organized and able to work independently without much supervision. Prior experience organizing events or functions, serving on political or other fund-raising campaigns and experience working with the media would be advantageous.
Job Description: The 40th anniversary of Chugach State Park will occur on August 6, 2010. The Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation (State Parks) is in immediate need of a part-time volunteer event coordinator to help plan, organize, publicize and execute a 40th Anniversary Celebration Event to be held August 6, 2010, most likely at the Glen Alps Parking lot in Chugach State Park. This event is still in the planning stage, but is likely to include commemorative speeches, music and food. The anniversary celebration will likely attract a good bit of public attention and be attended by some legislators, civic leaders, state officials, multiple park user groups and the local media.
The Events Coordinator will act as the key facilitator for this celebration event. He or she will work closely with State Park staff and members of the Chugach State Park Citizens Advisory Board to define event activities, identify participants, seek possible funding sources, coordinate volunteer helpers, identify publicity modes and otherwise help plan, organize and execute this important event.
Although the Event Coordinator will not be paid a salary, it is expected that he or she will be exposed to many influential Alaskans and will be in position to make many rewarding personal contacts. Perhaps the greatest value of this position, however, is the satisfaction that comes with being a key participant able to influence the success of a major commemorative event – the 40th anniversary of Chugach State Park – Anchorage’s own crown jewel.
The Event Coordinator will also likely be able to determine his or her own work schedule. There is no minimum amount of time that must be worked each week. State Parks will be flexible and help ensure that the selected individual is able to balance personal issues with these duties. It is expected, however, that the pace of responsibilities should increase as the event approaches.
How to Apply: Interested persons are encouraged to submit a brief letter of interest describing their qualifications and availability. All letters should be received by close of business on Thursday, March 25, 2010 and may be sent via email to email@example.com or mail to:
