Anchorage: Alaska PrideFest Week Kicks Off Saturday
Many Voices ONE Message June 18 to 25
ANCHORAGE – Identity, Inc., Alaska’s leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) advocacy and education organization, announces that Alaska PrideFest 2016 will be held from June 18 to June 25 throughout Anchorage.
Alaska PrideFest Week consists of more than 25 events throughout the week, celebrating and unifying Alaska’s LGBT community, and its allies, through connectivity.
This year’s Alaska PrideFest theme is Many Voices, One Message.
Businesses and organizations such as Williwaw, Bear Tooth Theatrepub, Mad Myrna’s, Anchorage Front Runners, Sheraton Anchorage, and The Raven, to name a few, have signed on to host many of the events during the week.
“PrideFest is about bringing everyone together to celebrate our LGBT community, especially in light of what happened recently in Orlando,” said Drew Phoenix, executive director of Identity.
“It’s an opportunity to remember those lost, step out and rejoice in who we are and what we’ve accomplished as a community.”
Alaska PrideFest Week will culminate on Saturday, June 25 with Identity’s Equality Parade at 11 a.m. on 7th Avenue. The festive parade will lead to the popular PrideFestival, held at noon at Delaney Park Strip.
This year, 120 vendors have signed up to showcase their products and services at PrideFestival, along with more than 20 main stage acts on two stages, during the festival.
At the start of the PrideFestival Anchorage Assembly member Elvi Gray-Jackson will read this year’s proclamation recognizing Alaska PrideFest Week, a long-standing tradition of the event. More than 10,000 people are expected to attend PrideFestival.
Identity is pleased to announce the inclusion of many corporate sponsors of Alaska PrideFest this year, including Continental Subaru, Alaska Airlines, Fred Meyer, Sheraton Anchorage, Mad Myrna’s, The Last Frontier Men’s Club, GCI, KFAT 92.9 FM, Value Village, Williwaw, Anchorage Press, and American Lung Association, to name a few.
