Volunteer to Improve Little Campbell Lake This Saturday at Kincaid Park 9 to Noon

Neighborhood Park Fix-It Expects More Than 100 Volunteers

JUNE 27, 2014, Anchorage, AK – Volunteers are rolling up their sleeves to give Kincaid Park’s Little Campbell Lake some tender loving care on Saturday June 28 from 9am-12pm.

Volunteers include community groups from JBER and Tri-Club, with swimmers, fishers, boaters, bird watchers, and hikers who enjoy the area also expected to pitch in.

This Neighborhood Park Fix-It at Little Campbell Lake rounds out the planned summer improvements to the area. In mid-June Youth Employment in Parks (YEP) crews performed a lakeside erosion project. The YEP program is a meaningful first job experience for teens that connects them to the outdoors, managed by the Anchorage Park Foundation and Anchorage Parks and Recreation.

Work scope for the Little Campbell Lake Fix-It on Saturday includes:

  • Installing “grass pave” geotextile fabric to expand pathway for ease of access by vehicles that stock the lake with fish
  • Spreading topsoil and seed
  • Planting shrubs and small trees
  • Cleaning up debris in fishing access areas around lake
  • Making trail and foot bridge repairs
  • Painting bollards
  • Picking up trash around the lake beach
  • Other miscellaneous park projects in the area

Volunteers interested in Neighborhood Park Fix-Its can contact Mirna Estrada, EstradaM@muni.org or 907.343.4587. Saturday’s event at Little Campbell Lake also welcomes drop-in volunteers.
