Governor Lowers Flags to Honor Former Legislator Fred Brown
June 30, 2014, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell today ordered state flags to be lowered on Tuesday in honor and memory of former Representative Fred Brown. Brown died on Friday at the age of 70.
“Sandy and I extend our thoughts and prayers for the Brown family during this difficult time,” Governor Parnell said.
First elected in 1974, Brown served four terms in the Alaska House of Representatives. Brown represented Fairbanks and was an active member of the community, particularly in music during his 50 years with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra.
A memorial will be held in mid-July at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, where Brown was an active member. State flags will be lowered on Tuesday, July 1. Flags should be returned to full-staff on Wednesday.
