2014 Downtown Summer Solstice Festival is back and better than ever!
June 16, 2014 (Anchorage, Alaska) – Grab your shades and head downtown on Saturday, June 21st for the Downtown Summer Solstice Festival brought to you by Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd.! The FREE festival will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on 4th Avenue from C Street to L Street in downtown.
Celebrate the longest weekend of the year with the Hero Games, professional skateboarders, Rage City Roller Girls Solstice Showdown, art fair, Live Chainsaw Art Carving, Break dancing break-fest, Street Hockey tournaments, live music & performance stages, beer gardens children activities including Steven’s Puppets, petting zoo, giant sandbox, kayak pool, arts & crafts and so much more!
The Hero Games will take place on 4th Avenue and E Street from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This friendly competition among Alaska’s first responders with fire, police and military is an entertaining spectacle to watch as teams go head to head in various challenges like water balloon toss, obstacle courses, donut eating contest, scooter race and much more. The winning team will be announced at 4:00 p.m.!
Local roller derby team, the Rage City Roller Girls will play a Solstice Showdown bout in Town Square throughout the afternoon. Don’t miss this unforgettable flat track match under the sun!
The Downtown Summer Solstice Festival has children activities including Steven’s Puppets with performances all day. Other activities include petting zoo, kayak pool, giant sandbox, obstacle course, car show and cultural performances. Please note that the rides at the children’s activities are not free – tickets will need to be purchased.
