New Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge Celebrates Grand Opening

Seward, Alaska: This week, Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge on Fox Island welcomed its first guests into the new lodge. The 2013 season commenced with an elder blessing and ribbon cutting ceremony.  Patrick M. Marrs, CIRI Board Member and CIRI Alaska Tourism Corporation (CATC) Board Chair cut the ribbon to welcome CIRI and CATC board members into the new lodge.

Construction began last fall on the new 3300-square-foot main lodge providing guests a place to experience the Alaska wilderness at its finest. Featuring a new spacious dining area and a relaxing lounge, the new lodge is repositioned on the apex of the beach, with immense two-story windows overlooking Resurrection Bay’s Halibut Cove.

Guests can unwind in comfort as they keep their eyes on the lookout for the abundant resident wildlife in the bay. Those who have selected the exclusive, remote experience of Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge will enjoy gourmet Alaska cuisine and may also participate in the new culinary program this season as the lodge’s kitchen has been expanded to allow guests cooking time with the island chef.

The lodge’s eight waterfront cabins were completely renovated in 2012, featuring upgraded furniture, fixtures and premium linens. Guests can also have their morning coffee or tea delivered directly to their cabin doors. Optional guided sea kayaking tours are available and each stay at the lodge culminates in a Kenai Fjords Tours Resurrection Bay Tour.  Those seeking more adventure can upgrade to a National Park Tour or Northwestern Fjord Tour, traveling deep into Kenai Fjords National Park to witness calving glaciers.
