Golf Classic Supports Student Scholarships
Doyon Foundation will host its 13th annual Morris Thompson Memorial Golf Classic on June 13-14, 2013 at Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska. The two-day classic includes a golf scramble, skills tournament, golf banquet, live auction and more than $20,000 in player prizes. A detailed description is available at www.doyonfoundation.com.
This annual event has supported the Morris Thompson Scholarship Fund, an endowed fund established by Doyon Foundation to benefit Alaska Native, higher education students studying business management and leadership. Since inception, the Foundation has awarded 67 Morris Thompson scholarships totaling $169,400.
“Thank you to Doyon Foundation for carrying on our cultural traditions. As indigenous people, we’ve always prepared for the future, and that is exactly what Doyon Foundation is doing by providing educational scholarships. As a Morris Thompson Competitive Scholarship recipient, I’m thankful for Doyon Foundation’s support and plan on re-investing in Doyon Foundation by becoming a donor. Anaa Baasee’,” said Tanya Beatus Kaquatosh, a 2012-2013 competitive scholarship recipient, who recently earned her MBA from W. P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University.

For the first time, a welcome reception will be held in honor of the late Senator Al Adams, who was a long-time friend to Morris and a strong supporter of the golf classic. The reception will take place today, Wednesday, June 12, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the Princess Hotel in the Jade Room.
