Denali State Park and Nancy Lake State Recreation Area closed to backcountry campfires
(Palmer, AK) – Due to extreme fire danger caused by warm and dry conditions, the Mat-Su Area Office of Alaska State Parks announces that effective Friday, June 21, campfires are prohibited in the backcountry areas of Denali State Park and the Nancy Lake State Recreation Area, including Red Shirt Lake and the Canoe Trails. The closures will be announced via notices posted at park trailheads and will expire when the fire danger abates. Use of cooking stoves, fires within the metal rings provided at developed day use and campsites, and public-use cabin wood stoves is still allowed. For more information, please call 745-3975.
