Construction Begins to Re-Build Mulcahy Ice Rinks
Hockey Community Comes Together for a Common Cause
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Wednesday June 19th, 9:30am – If you’ve been down to the Mulcahy Rinks at Sullivan Arena, you know that they are in bad shape. “It’s time for them to be rebuilt,” says Carlos Gomez, President of the Scotty Gomez Foundation and father of local hockey legend Scotty Gomez. “That’s our dream.”
For the past few years, the Scotty Gomez Foundation has been fundraising to make this dream a reality. With support from the Alaska State Legislature, the Anchorage Park Foundation, and individual donors, they are poised to rebuild the two outdoor Mulcahy ice rinks this summer.
Join us early tomorrow morning to witness the beginning.
Construction will begin at 8am and the media is invited to attend at 9:30am. Contractors will be pouring in the concrete rink footings, which create the structure for the boards and rink. Due to the hot weather, this project is almost two months ahead of schedule. The majority of the construction labor is being donated, making this a true community effort.
On behalf of the Anchorage hockey community, Gomez says, “It’s all about giving back to the community and this is our way of doing it.”
