Alaska PrideFest - March and Festival this Saturday
Alaska PrideFest Week culminates with “Dancing in the Streets”
ANCHORAGE— Alaska PrideFest 2013, a program of Identity, Inc. and supported by a long list of other local organizations and businesses, will celebrate the week with the Alaska PrideFest March, held at 11 a.m. on June 15 through the heart of downtown Anchorage. More than 200 contingents have registered for “Dancing in the Streets,” this year’s upbeat movement, beginning at 4th Avenue and L Street, outside Snow City Café, and proceeding to the Memorial Block of Delaney Park Strip, to show their support of the city’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
Once at the Delaney Park Strip, participants and attendants will enjoy a day of celebrating “Our State of Pride” during the Alaska PrideFestival, held from noon to 5 p.m. at the Memorial Block (between N and P streets). More than 60 vendors and a long list of entertainers are expected to spend the day catering to thousands of local PrideFest supporters.
PrideFest March participants in the past have included Identity, The Imperial Court of All Alaska, Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), Metropolitan Community Church of Anchorage (MCC), ACLU of Alaska Foundation, Alaskans For Civil Rights (ACR), Mad Myrna’s, The Raven, The Last Frontier Men’s Club (TLFMC), Young Gay Men's Association, Imperial Court of All Alaska (ICOAA) Emperor and Empress, OUT (UAA’s GLBTQA Support Group), Ms. Alaska Leather, Alaskans for Choice, Alaskan AIDS Assistance Association (4 A’s), Alaskan Klingon Club, People of Faith, Anchorage Librarians, Anchorage High Schools Gay-Straight Alliance (GSAs), Alaska Green Party, Radical Arts for Women (RAW), Dykes on Bikes, and Alaska Roller Derby League.
