Playground Palooza Honors Carol Comeau

Community Service and Celebration at North Russian Jack Springs Park

ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Saturday June 30 10 a.m.-2 p.m., 2012 – After 38 years of service, Superintendent Carol Comeau’s last day is next Saturday, June 30th. We are proud to announce that she will be finishing her ASD career in the same place she started – on an Anchorage playground!

The public is invited to volunteer with Carol Comeau at North Russian Jack Springs Park, 801 Pine Street, to say thank you and goodbye. Superintendent Carol Comeau began her career with the Anchorage School District working on a playground at Ocean View Elementary.  Almost four decades later, Carol will spend her last day of service improving a neighborhood playground in the Russian Jack neighborhood.  The Anchorage Park Foundation is inviting you to celebrate Carol’s service to our community during Playground Palooza with Carol Comeau at North Russian Jack Springs Park.

North Russian Jack Springs Park is badly in need of a makeover, and volunteers will help prepare the area for an exciting new polar bear themed destination playground to be installed in August. We are seeking groups of volunteers to work on the playground Saturday, June 30th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contact Libby Kugel at the Anchorage Park Foundation, to sign your team up for projects and t-shirts: Libby@AnchorageParkFoundation.org, 274-1003.

A public community celebration will be held from noon-2 p.m. on site.  Bring the whole family and enjoy the bouncy house, live brass band, Magician Eric Gilliam, ice cream and more.  Attendees will have an opportunity to say thank you to Carol in person, participate in fun family activities, and drop off school supply donations for one of Carol’s favorite initiatives, Helping Us Give School Supplies (HUGSS).

The Anchorage Park Foundation will keep you informed about neighborhood park improvements this summer at www.AnchorageParkFoundation.org, and on facebook.

The Anchorage Parks App is the perfect tool to find any Anchorage park on the go!  Use it and never get lost on the way to a park again!
