The June Natural Gas Monthly, featuring data for April 2012 has been released. Despite the end of a mild winter contributing to record-low deliveries of 284 Billion cubic feet (Bcf) of natural gas to residential consumers, total consumption of natural gas for April 2012 was a record high for April, 1,944 Bcf. Gains in demand for gas for power due to coal displacement brought deliveries to the electric power sector to a record high for April with 724 Bcf, a gain of 6.5 percent from March 2012. The records for natural gas residential consumption go back to 1973 while the records for electric power consumption and total consumption date back to January 2001.
