IT’S BACK! 2012 Downtown Solstice Festival
June 18, 2012 (Anchorage, Alaska) – Grab your shades and head downtown this Saturday, June 23rd for the Downtown Summer Solstice Festival brought to you by Anchorage Downtown Partnership, Ltd.! The FREE festival will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on 4th Avenue from C Street to L Street in downtown.
Celebrate the longest weekend of the year with the 4th Annual Hero Games, professional skateboarder Ceejay Walker, Rage City Roller Girls Solstice Showdown, AFC Champion Dominick Cruz, art fair, live music, children activities including Penny’s Puppets, petting zoo, giant sandbox, kayak pool, arts & crafts and much more!
The 4th Annual Hero Games will take place on 4th Avenue and E Street from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This friendly competition among fire, police and military is an entertaining spectacle to watch as teams go head to head in various challenges like water balloon volleyball, donut eating contest, scooter race and much more. The winning team will be announced at 5:00 p.m.!
Meet AFC Champion Dominick Cruz in Peratrovich Park at 4th Avenue and E Street! Dominick will be available for free pictures at the Air Force Reserve booth from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Local roller derby team, the Rage City Roller Girls will play a Solstice Showdown bout in Town Square at 4:00 p.m. Don’t miss this unforgettable flat track match under the sun!
Watch professional skateboarder Ceejay Walker hit jumps and tricks outside Zak’s Boardroom. Walker will be signing autographs on 4th Avenue and G Street.
The Downtown Summer Solstice Festival has children activities including Penny’s Puppets with performances all day. Other activities include petting zoo, kayak pool, giant sandbox, obstacle course, and cultural performances.
