ELECTRIC POWER MONTHLY & ELECTRICITY MONTHLY UPDATE – June 2012
The Electricity Monthly Update, June 2012 edition presenting April 2012 data, has been released. Highlights include:
- For the first time since EIA began computing monthly statistics, natural gas and coal had the same share of total net generation of electricity during April 2012.
- April continued to be mild, driving a nearly 6 percent drop in residential retail sales when compared to April 2011.
- Wholesale electricity prices remained in the lower half of the annual range in most of the continental United States due to lower natural gas prices and temperate weather.
- A feature article on the challenges California’s wholesale electricity market will face this summer.

The Electric Power Monthly, June 2012 edition presenting April 2012 data, has been released. Highlights include:
- In April 2012, net generation in the United States was down 2.3 percent from April 2011.
- Retail sales of electricity were down 1.3 percent from April 2011.
- The average U.S. retail price of electricity in April 2012 was down 1.2 percent from April 2011.
