Anchorage Businesses Recognized for Creating Outstanding Landscapes
(Anchorage, AK) – Three Anchorage businesses recently received awards from TREErific Anchorage for creating outstanding landscapes. TREErific is a community organization that partners with the Division of Forestry’s Alaska Community Forestry Program to improve the city’s landscape through planting and promotion of trees.
The award recipients are:
- American Tire and Auto, for an attractive, well-balanced mix of vegetation at its Old Seward Highway location.
· BP Energy Center, for an outstanding display of well-designed and maintained landscaping, extensive planting of trees and shrubs, and the preservation of naturally wooded areas throughout its 29 acres.
· Huffman Business Park/Carr-Gottstein Properties, for integrating an abundance of trees and shrubs to locations throughout the complex, and for its commitment to not only improve its property but maintain the adjacent roadside landscaping.
Cathy Gleason of TREErific presented the awards on May 21 during the Anchorage Arbor Day celebration at Cuddy Family Midtown Park. This is the fifth year that TREErific has presented awards to Anchorage businesses and organizations. The awards raise awareness within the business community that preserving native vegetation and good maintenance practices enhance the urban environment. TREErific recognizes organizations that incorporate trees into their landscaping, demonstrate good maintenance practices, or preserve existing trees and wooded areas within their developed footprint.
The Alaska Community Forestry Program, with funds from the US Forest Service, helps establish and sustain local community forestry programs throughout Alaska. The state fosters partnerships between government agencies, businesses, and volunteers to meet local needs.
