Governor Honors Service of Slain Fort Wainwright Soldier

June 5, 2011, Juneau, Alaska - Governor Sean Parnell offered his condolences to the family and friends of Sergeant Jeffrey Sherer, who died Thursday from injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

"Sandy and I were saddened to learn of the loss of Sergeant Sherer," Governor Parnell said. "He was a valiant soldier whose service on behalf of our country will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are prayers are with his family, friends and fellow soldiers."

Sherer, 29, of was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Wainwright, Alaska.
