Begich Statement on USGS Energy Assessment of Cook Inlet
U.S. Sen. Mark Begich released the following statement after the U.S. Geological Survey released a new assessment of undiscovered technically recoverable oil and gas resources, including both unconventional and conventional resources in the Cook Inlet Region of Alaska:
"This is more great news for Alaska's energy industry. On the heels of last week's strong Cook Inlet lease sales, drill rigs potentially headed to the Inlet this summer, and now a resource assessment that multiplies the 1995 estimate of natural gas reserves by nearly a factor of 10, prospects are strong for the industry in Cook Inlet.
"Of course, like all estimates, this one will take millions of dollars of investment and years of effort to capitalize on the enormous potential. For now, Southcentral utilities and their customers facing the prospect of dwindling gas supply may have reason to breathe a little easier."
