TelAlaska Cellular Introduces Cellular Service in Nome
TelAlaska Cellular wireless telephone service will be available for the first time this week in Nome. Service will be in place in Nome beginning Thursday, June 3 and will be launched with a community event from noon to 7 p.m. at the TelAlaska offices in the Old Federal Building.
Nome is the tenth community to receive cellular service from TelAlaska Cellular. Service was turned up in Cold Bay, Fort Yukon, Galena, Iliamna, King Cove, Port Lions, Sand Point and Teller in 2009 and in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor last month. Additional communities will receive service later in 2010.
TelAlaska Cellular’s wireless telephone offerings are Local Only and Local & Beyond services that can be purchased with bundled options to include landline service. A $1 Lifeline rate is available for customers who qualify. Other available services from TelAlaska Cellular include text messaging, data packages for Smartphones, roaming services across a nationwide network, voicemail and calling features. A variety of cell phones will be available.
TelAlaska Cellular is using Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technology, a globally accepted standard that is found in Europe, Japan, Australia and more than 80 other countries.
