Representative Doogan to undergo brain surgery
Rep. Mike Doogan (D-Anchorage) is in Seattle for the removal of a brain tumor at the University of Washington's Harborview Medical Center. Surgery is scheduled for Thursday.
The tumor, a usually benign sort called a meningioma, was discovered during an MRI earlier this month. The surgery is to be performed by a team headed by Dr. Richard Ellenbogen. Ellenbogen is Chairman of Neurological Surgery at the University of Washington School of Medicine and the Chief of Neurological Surgery at Harborview.
The size and position of the tumor led Doogan to Ellenbogen, one of the nation's experts on lateral ventricular tumors.
Estimates of recovery from such surgery vary, but Doogan said he expects to be at work by the fall.
