Pacific Seafood Subsidiary Earns Recognition for Workplace Safety

Island Seafoods is Approved by the Alaska Occupational Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Pacific Seafood, a family owned seafood company based in Portland, Ore., congratulates subsidiary company Island Seafoods of Kodiak, Ala., on earning approved status for the Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP).

"We will continue to evaluate our programs to ensure our team members health and safety practices are among the safest in the industry."

SHARP is a federal recognition program administered by the Alaska Occupational Safety and Health Section (AKOSH) in the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development's Standards and Safety Division. Organizations that partner with AKOSH and achieve SHARP status are likely to experience fewer workplace accidents and reduced workers' compensation insurance costs.

Island Seafoods was approved by labor and workforce commissioner Click Bishop as a result of the company's outstanding employee safety and health programs.

Island Seafoods General Manager, John Whiddon, responded proudly regarding his operation saying, "Island Seafoods is committed to providing training, adherence to safety guidelines and regulations and by promoting a reward system for team member participation in and contribution to maintaining a safe work place."

"We are extremely proud of the safety culture we've instilled throughout Pacific Seafood and our subsidiary companies. These efforts have resulted in a proactive approach to safety issues, and provide a safe working environment for our valued team members," said president and CEO Frank Dulcich. "We will continue to evaluate our programs to ensure our team members health and safety practices are among the safest in the industry."
