North Nikiski fire continues to burn

(Soldotna, AK) The McClain Lake fire first reported yesterday at 5:20 p.m. continues to burn on U.S. Fish & Wildlife land on the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge.

The fire is located north of Nikiski on the east side of the Swanson River about 2 miles west of Swanson Lake. Cooler temperatures last night and early this morning will aid Division of Forestry personnel as they work to suppress the fire.

Additional resources are being ordered to assist in suppression efforts. No structures are being threatened at this time and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The McClain Lake fire is one of 95 active fires statewide.
