New Chef, New Flavors at the Anchor PubThere's a new executive chef and a brand new menu at The Anchor Pub, located at 4th Avenue and G Street in downtown Anchorage. The Anchor Pub welcomed new executive chef Aaron Paul Killian in late April, and unveiled its completely new lunch, dinner and bar bites menu in mid-May.
Killian holds an associate's degree in culinary arts and a bachelor's degree in English literature/creative writing from the University of North Carolina - Charlotte. During his culinary career, the Pennsylvania native has worked with chefs Emeril Lagasse and Wolfgang Puck, and earned a "best dessert award" in Charlotte in 1999. Most recently, Killian was working in St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
"Upon interviewing Aaron, we quickly realized his extensive knowledge of food and the restaurant industry. He has a great attitude, is an extremely hard worker and, most importantly, has a genuine love of food," said Sarah Graham, general manager of The Anchor Pub.
Killian's knowledge and love of food comes through in The Anchor Pub's new menu, which features an array of upscale pub food with an international flair. The new menu features a selection of salads and soups, including The Anchor seafood chowder, and starters ranging from chicken tenders and beer-battered onion rings to smoked salmon pot stickers and the chef's favorite - truffle mac and cheese.
There's also a variety of gourmet burgers and sandwiches, as well as large plates including fresh Alaska halibut fish and chips, baby back ribs, and Alaska salmon piccata. The menu also includes a line-up of wings, including the Devil's Reject - chicken wings in a ghost pepper-based sauce that is being billed as the "hottest wing in Alaska."
"We use the highest-quality ingredients to create homemade dishes and offer them at a modest price," Killian said. "Everything is housemade except the ranch dressing!"
The Anchor Pub is located at 4th Avenue and G Street in downtown Anchorage. The kitchen is open from 11 a.m. - 1 a.m. daily. In addition to food, The Anchor Pub offers a full bar, pool, darts, video games, jukebox and a 150-inch HD TV, as well as DJs and dancing on the weekends.
