The Heroes of the Diamond kicked off the 2010 "Red, White, and Blue Tour"
pre-sented by Ashford University at spring training in Florida in April and
now they are bringing their team to Anchorage for 4 games only with your
Anchorage Bucs!! Throughout their tour they will play 3 Alaska teams (the
Anchorage Bucs, the Fair-banks Goldpanners, and the Kenai Oilers), the
Chicago Cubs, the St. Louis Cardinals, the Kansas City Royals, and many
The players have a saying that you "trade one uniform for another." Most
players come from their active duty bases and report right to the baseball
diamond! The players will be with the team anywhere from one day to a few
weeks. "This is the most unique and amazing team I have ever coached," said
field manager Steve Dillard, a former major leaguer making his debut. The
team began in 1990 when President George H.W. Bush wanted to raise morale of
the troops and to promote awareness of the honorable sacrifices that our
military and heroes make daily. The Yellow Ribbon takes the place of the S
on their jerseys and hats to symbolize support for our troops. There are
approximately 40 military baseball teams stationed world-wide, but only one
The first game will be on Saturday, June 12 at 2 pm, sponsored by Credit
Union 1. You can pick up free tickets at any CU1 location while supplies
last, but if you're a military ID card holder (active, reserve, retired, or
dependent) just flash your ID at the gate for free admission!
The Bucs will host the Heroes of the Diamond again on Sunday, June 13 at 7
pm. This will be our 3rd annual Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Mulcahy!
Bring your Military ID or wear pink for free admission! Come out to support
your local players, your military, and help to save second base!
Friday night, June 17th at 3 pm bring the family down to Mulcahy and enjoy a
Thurs-day of safe, affordable family fun while supporting your US Military
and your An-chorage Bucs!!
The Bucs final game with the Heroes of the Diamond will be Thursday, June 18
at 7 pm will be brought to you by your local Village Inn Restaurants; you
may stop by any of the 3 Village Inn's for free tickets, or as always, bring
your military ID for free ad-mission!
There are many pre-game events planned - choreographed "Passing the Flag,"
"Walk of Honor," "Taps," a 9-11 tribute, and more to pay respect to the
sacrifices of our wounded and fallen heroes, so show up early to take part
in these pre-game ceremonies! Gates will open 1 hour prior to game time!
Souvenirs from the Heroes of the Diamond will be on sale during games.
