Keybank Expands Public Finance Expertise and Presence in Alaska


ANCHORAGE, AK, June 17, 2010 - KeyBanc Capital Markets Inc., the broker/dealer subsidiary and investment banking arm of KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY), has expanded its public finance capability in Alaska by naming  John D.Urbina and Geoff A. Urbina managing directors.  The father and son, respectively, share a combined 45 years in proving investment services to Alaska municipalities.

The Urbinas have been top-ranked underwriters in the State of Alaska for many years. Clients have included Alaska state agencies and municipal issuers.  

The pair will oversee KeyBanc Capital Markets' local public finance team, which specializes in investment banking for governments and governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions and private K-12 schools.

In 1976, John Urbina assisted in developing Alaska Municipal Bond Bank, serving as financial advisor to the Bond Bank's first executive director. Over seven years, Urbina and the Bond Bank finance team initiated approximately $250 million in municipal bond project financing for rural Alaska.  His extensive experience includes 63-20 financings, lease-lease back, utility revenue, housing revenue, COP and general obligation bond transactions. He earned his B.S. in aerospace engineering sciences from the University of Colorado and his M.B.A. in finance from the University of Washington. He is registered with FINRA (Series 7, 53, and 63).

Geoff A. Urbina's financing experience spans transportation, airport, utility, pipeline, water and sewer, housing, tobacco securitization and pension obligation bonds for municipal issuers at all levels from state to local agencies. He holds a B.A. in business administration and an M.B.A. with a concentration in finance and economics from the University of Washington. He is also a registered representative with the FINRA (Series 7, 63).

Their community activity has included fundraising for the Alaska Native Heritage Center, serving on the Alaska Economic Development Corporation Board, and special project financings for the Anchorage campuses of Alaska Pacific University and Wayland Baptist University.
