Harding Lake State Recreation Area Implementing Capacity Controls for the July 4th Weekend
(Fairbanks, AK) - During this July 4th weekend, to reduce crowding and out-of-control, late night parties, Alaska State Parks will limit the number of vehicles allowed to enter Harding Lake State Recreation Area. Each campsite will be allowed 2 vehicles. Park Rangers and State Troopers will be on patrol to minimize disruptive behavior, noise, and disorderly conduct. The use of fireworks is prohibited at all times in Alaska State Parks.The entrance station at Harding Lake will be open Thursday afternoon and remain open through 8:00pm Sunday. Visitors will be given a Welcome Flyer when registering at the gate. The entrance booth will issue receipts to campers. Only campers with valid receipts will be allowed in the park after 11:00 p.m. All others will be declined admittance. Park managers have identified carrying capacities for the park. Camping will be allowed in the following areas. Camping will be available at the 78 sites in the campground loop. Additional camping will be in the camp-a-lot behind the ranger station. This area will accommodate 10 campsites or 20 vehicles. The games area lot will provide additional camping for 12 self contained vehicles. There are 5 walk-in campsites with 5 parking spots near the trailhead. Campsite limits in all areas will be 6 people and 2 vehicles per site. When the boat launch parking lot and parallel parking areas are full, no more boat launchers will be allowed until someone leaves. No loose boat trailers will be allowed in the boat launch lot. Campers may leave their boat trailers in the ball park activity field.
