Governor Parnell Orders State Flags Lowered For Dutch Harbor Remembrance Day

June 2, 2010, Anchorage, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell has ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on June 3 to mark the 68th anniversary of the bombing of DutchHarbor during World War II.

“We honor all who were affected by the bombing of DutchHarbor and we pay our respects to the service members who died protecting our freedom and defending our country,” Governor Parnell said.

On June 3, 1942, the Japanese bombed DutchHarbor on AmaknakIsland. Governor Parnell has proclaimed June 3, 2010, as Dutch Harbor Remembrance Day in Alaska. He urges all Alaskans to remember those who fell, sacrificed, and fought defending the Aleutian Islands during World War II.
