Alaska Theatre of Youth Hires New Executive Director
The Alaska Theatre of Youth (ATY) is pleased to announce the hiring of a new
Executive Director. Jessica Jacob has an impressive resume¹ in theatre and
theatre education and has worked in the non-profit arts and education
communities for nearly twenty years. ATY is a community-based non-profit
organization with a mission to develop the human potential in young people
through performing arts training and performance opportunities, and to
expose our community to the finest in theatre for young people.
Jacob has a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre from the University of Hawaii at
Manoa. She has performed in numerous productions in Alaska and Hawaii, and
directed eight plays, including most recently the University of Alaska
Mainstage Production of Christmas Belles. She also has extensive teaching
experience, serving most recently as UAA Adjunct Professor, teaching acting,
among other courses, and as Guest Lecturer in theatrical movement and combat
for the stage. Jacob has also been an instructor at ATY¹s Summer
Conservatory and Drama Center Programs.
Jacob replaces Christian Heppinstall, who is leaving ATY to pursue other
dreams in and out of Alaska.
Jacob¹s first major task will be to coordinate this year¹s Summer
Conservatory. The Conservatory is a creative and fun skill-building drama
program for young people ages 5-18. Two four-week sessions are offered. The
Conservatory is co-sponsored by the UAA Department of Theatre and Dance.
The 2010-2011 ATY Mainstage schedule includes Prince Caspian & the Voyage of
the Dawn Treader; Annie, Jr.; Rent for Younger Audiences, Disney¹s Alice in
Wonderland and Disney's Aladdin, Jr.
