Alaska Railroad and Era Alaska Provide Support for Alaska Business Week Program
The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce two new sponsors for the Alaska Business Week program to be held on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus August 8-14.
For students coming from Anchorage, the Alaska Railroad Corporation has generously offered to provide free round-trip transportation from Anchorage to students traveling to the Alaska Business Week program in Fairbanks. The train leaves Anchorage August 7th and returns August 14th. Sign up for tickets on the student application. Transportation application link
For those students coming from outside Anchorage, Era Alaska is providing 20 round-trip tickets to qualifying students from served communities on their route, and a 25% discount for participants who might not apply in time for the free tickets. The application deadline is July 31st. Due to the generous contributions of the Alaska Business Week inaugural sponsors, including Tesoro Alaska, BP Exploration Alaska, Icicle Seafoods Inc., State Farm, the Alaska Credit Union League, Era Alaska, TOTE, the Alaska Railroad Corporation, Aadlandflint, Alaska Airlines, and Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA), a reduced tuition for the weeklong program is $325, which includes housing, food, program materials and activity fees. Many scholarships are available for students, and applying for them is as easy as filling out the application available on-line at www.alaskachamber.com.

State Chamber Solicits Nominations for Annual Awards
The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce is soliciting nominations for its prestigious annual awards. The awards are the William A. Egan Outstanding Alaskan, the Bill Bivin Small Business of the Year and the Local Chamber of the Year. Presentations of the awards will be made September 21, 2010 at the at the Chamber's 51st Annual Fall Conference and Business Trade Show in Juneau.
The Celebrated and prestigious William A. Egan award is given to individuals who have made substantial and continual contributions of statewide significance while working in the private sector. Each year, nominations are kept strictly confidential. The selection is made by all past chairs of the Alaska State Chamber of Commerce with voting conducted by secret ballot. The recipients of the Outstanding Alaskan of the Year form an impressive list of Alaskan "Who's Who" and dates back to its first honoree in 1964.
The Bill Bivin award, established in 1993, pays tribute to businesses that exemplify leadership, ethics and organization. The business is recognized for consistent community involvement, an excellent business reputation and established leadership in their fields.
The Alaska Chamber of the Year award is bestowed upon an Alaskan chamber for consistent community involvement and an excellent business reputation.
