ANCHOR RIVER KING SALMON SPORT FISHERY RESTRICTED TO NON-RETENTION BEGINNING JUNE 12
Beginning Saturday, June 12, at 12:01 a.m., through Wednesday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m., king salmon caught in the Anchor River may not be possessed or retained. Any king salmon caught may not be removed from the water, and must be released immediately.
King salmon escapement to the Anchor River through June 9, 2010, was 2,092 fish. King salmon runs to the Anchor River have only been estimated since 2004 and variability in run timing between years results in uncertainty projecting whether the Anchor River king salmon escapement goal of 5,000 fish will be attained in 2010. This year's king salmon run is slightly behind the 2008 run through June 9 by 371 fish. The final escapement for 2008 was 5,806 fish. This emergency order will remain in effect to curtail harvest until more of the run develops and run projections have a greater level of precision.
The emergency order issued earlier this season prohibiting the use of bait on the Anchor River, Deep Creek and the Ninilchik River as well the emergency closure of the salt waters 2 miles north and south and one mile offshore of the Anchor River remain in effect.
