Reps. Stoltze & Hughes to Host Public Forum and Tour of Senior Service Facilities in Chugiak and Mat-Su Areas Aug. 4
Thursday, July 31, 2014, Mat-Su, Alaska – Representatives Bill Stoltze and Shelley Hughes will host a legislative tour on Monday, August 4, of senior service facilities in the Chugiak and Mat-Su areas. A public forum will follow with representatives from the Alaska Mental Health Trust, the Alaska Dept. of Health and Social Services commissioner’s office, the Division of Senior Services, the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, the Mat-Su Health Foundation, and the Rasmuson Foundation.
The tour will begin at the Chugiak-Eagle River Senior Center and continue with stops at the Wasilla Senior Center and Mat-Su Senior Services (the Palmer Senior Center). In addition, the public is invited to attend a sit-down public forum to discuss the increased need for senior services from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Palmer Senior Center, following the legislative tour.
“Seniors and others who are interested will have a chance to provide direct feedback, as well as hear how the state and groups like Mat Su Senior Services, Mat-Su Parent Links Resource Center, and Aging & Disability Resource Centers plan to tackle challenges ahead. This vital exchange will help determine the best path forward to better serve our seniors,” Hughes, R-Palmer, said.
“It is important that we encourage collaboration between state entities like the Mental Health Trust Authority, Alaska Housing Finance Corporation, and our private and non-profit partners for the continued benefit of Alaska’s seniors and disabled,” Stoltze, R-Mat-Su/Chugiak, said. “They should encounter first-hand the challenges they face, as well as the human faces of our seniors whom they serve.”
