Last Call for Summer of Heroes Nominations TODAY July 15

The search for the 2014 Summer of Heroes honorees is almost over! With the nomination period coming to a close today, we hope you’ll help us spread the word about the approaching July 15 deadline to ensure that all of Alaska’s young heroes have a chance to shine.

As you may recall, Summer of Heroes is a partnership program with Alaska Communications and Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska to support youth development programs throughout the state. Five young Alaskans (ages 6-18), plus one from the Employee Program, will be recognized as heroes and receive a $1,500 college scholarship for their dedication to making a difference within their communities. In addition, each hero will be honored during a special ceremony at the Alaska State Fair.

Alaskans are encouraged to submit nominations through the Summer of Heroes website, or at an Alaska Communications retail store or Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska Clubhouse.

Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska has lost millions of dollars in federal funding in the past several years due to the decline of federal grants. These funding challenges reduce the number of Clubhouses the organization can operate and directly relate to the staff and resources it has to make an impact on the kids it serves.

For the fourth consecutive summer, Alaska Communications is donating $25 to Boys & Girls Clubs – Alaska for every new smartphone sold through July 15 through Summer of Heroes. The donation, up to $15,000 total, will help provide much-needed funds for the nonprofit’s youth programs.
