Sen. Murkowski Visits with Wounded Veterans at Lake Clark National Park

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, met July 2 with wounded veterans and their spouses during a visit to Alaska’s Lake Clark National Park and Preserve as part of the National Park Service partnership with Operation Heal Our Patriots.

“I’m thankful that I was able to spend some time with a few of America’s veterans during the Fourth of July week. The sacrifices they’ve made defending our freedom are real and inspiring. We can never thank them enough for giving so much for our country,” Murkowski said.

Murkowski and the veterans visited the Richard Proenneke historic cabin site at the park, where they got a close-up look at the noted outdoorsman’s cabin. The cabin is managed as an outdoor museum by the National Park Service.

“Operation Heal Our Patriots provides veterans and their spouses a chance to travel to Alaska for a weeklong retreat that, hopefully, provides some much deserved rest and relaxation,” Murkowski said. “I thank Frank Graham and Samaritan’s Purse for their generous support for this wonderful program.”

Murkowski is Alaska’s senior senator and the ranking Republican on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
