SBA and National Export Initiative Host the First Alaska Team Workshop
Anchorage – The U.S. Small Business Administration Alaska District Office and the National Export Initiative hosted the first Alaska Export Outreach Team Workshop on June 14th. President Obama set the goal of doubling U.S. exports in five years in his State of the Union address in January 2010, thus establishing the National Export Initiative (NEI). The NEI is a coordinated interagency effort to promote exporting and coordinate Federal assistance for U.S. exporters. Small business is key to the success of the NEI and the President’s goal.
SBA is working with the small business community, the Trade Promotion Coordinating Committee (TPCC), its resource partners, business incubators, universities, colleges, non-profit organizations and other federal, state and local agencies, to support small business exporters.
SBA’s strategy is to:
1. identify those small businesses with export potential.
2. prepare them to make the their first export sale.
3. connect them to new markets.
4. support them once they find export opportunities with financing and technical assistance.
The Export Outreach Team is an important resource for small businesses. The team will serve as a customized local referral network for small business seeking export assistance. A successful Export Outreach Team will communicate regularly to coordinate efforts and implement the agreed SBA district export strategy.
