Restrictions lifted for Chena River State Recreation Area
(Fairbanks, AK)- The Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation has lifted access restrictions in the Chena River State Recreation Area – with the exception of the backcountry in close proximity to the fire – due to the reduced threat posed by the Stuart Creek 2 wildfire.
The recreation area is now open from mile 27 to 39 of the Chena Hot Springs Road. The backcountry area that remains closed includes Granite Tors, Mist Creek, and South Fork Trails. The closure will remain in place through the weekend and until fire-related public safety concerns are no longer an issue. An update will be provided when additional areas reopen.
Alaska State Parks is working closely with the Alaska Interagency Management Team, the BLM Alaska Fire Service, and the State Troopers.
