In 2013, the Alaska Legislature authorized hundreds of millions of dollars for projects that could move North Slope natural gas to market.
Much of the money is aimed at a proposed small-volume in-state pipeline project that a state agency is pursuing. Some funding went to an even smaller-scale project to truck liquefied natural gas south to Fairbanks, Interior Alaska’s largest community.
Also still moving forward is an ambitious North Slope producer-led project that could pipe massive amounts of gas to a Southcentral Alaska liquefaction plant that would export LNG to Asia.
The Office of the Federal Coordinator has revised its “Guide to Alaska natural gas projects” to reflect the new funding and update the status of these and other projects.
