ACHP assists with Galena flood relief
Executive Director Rob Jordan was recently invited by the Tanana Chiefs Conference and the Alaska Division of Forestry to assess the potential for training flood victims in Galena in energy efficient retrofit techniques. More than 50 percent of the housing has been condemned for health and safety purposes. After meeting with community leaders to make arrangements for a training Rob, Tom Johnson from the Alaska Center for Energy and Power, and Art Nash from the University Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, helped community members to remove molded drywall, carpet, and saturated insulation in an effort to dry out the buildings prior to retrofit.

for rural innovations
Five Alaska Native communities have been awarded assistance for clean-energy endeavors ranging from increased energy efficiency to relocation assistance and infrastructure improvements. Read more.
Health clinics will benefit from
lower energy costs
Over the past 10 years rural Alaska has seen the average cost of heating and electricity nearly triple. Recently, the Denali Commission issued a grant to improve the energy efficiency of rural Alaska health clinics.

Cold Climate Building Techniques (ACC)
ACC is a two-day, intensive workshop presenting energy-efficient building techniques for builders, designers, planners and homeowners. It is an excellent opportunity to learn the latest construction methods related to residential energy efficiency. This course meets the State of Alaska Division of Occupational Licensing educational requirements that qualify general contractors to take the state Residential Endorsement exam. Eligible for 16 continuing education credits. Cost: $450 (includes certificate of completion and PDF manual)

Annual Board of Directors meeting
helps shape direction of ACHP
On June 20, 2013 the ACHP board of directors chose to retain the services of Creta Bloxom, Dan Duame & Kelly Gunells to lead and shape the strategic direction of ACHP. Creta Bloxom is co-owner of Home Inspections Plus, and serves on the National Association of Women Mortgage Professionals. Dan Duame is Executive Director of Aleutian Housing Authority (AHA) where he has successfully implemented an aggressive schedule of housing stock modernization and related rehabilitation projects since coming to AHA. Kelly Gunnells has been in the Fairbanks mortgage lending industry for over 25 years and has served on boards of several nonprofits including Interior Alaska Building Association, Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Alaska and the Fairbanks Neighborhood Housing Services.
The ACHP Board also re-elected Chuck Renfro as President for the upcoming year. In addition to over 20 years of service to ACHP, Chuck is also a mechanical contractor, general contractor, AkWarm & RESNET certified energy rater, BPI Building Analyst/proctor, and past ICC Inspector. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Anchorage Homebuilders Association and formerly served on the Board of the Cold Climate Housing Research Center in Fairbanks.
ACHP would like to thank our Board of Directors for their tireless service in advocating for energy efficient buildings that are cost effective, safe, and durable.
