Monthly Energy Review July 2012 Release
The July 2012 Monthly Energy Review (MER), EIA's primary report of recent energy statistics, was released on July 27, 2012. Preliminary data indicate that in April 2012:
- Residential sector primary energy consumption in the United States equaled 0.4 quadrillion Btu, an 11-percent decrease from April 2011. The residential sector accounted for 6 percent of primary energy consumption.
- Commercial sector primary energy consumption equaled 0.3 quadrillion Btu, a 6-percent decrease from April 2011. The commercial sector accounted for 4 percent of primary energy consumption.
- Industrial sector primary energy consumption equaled 1.6 quadrillion Btu, a 1-percent decrease from April 2011. The industrial sector accounted for 22 percent of primary energy consumption.
- Transportation sector primary energy consumption equaled 2.2 quadrillion Btu, a 2-percent decrease from April 2011. The transportation sector accounted for 30 percent of primary energy consumption.
- Electric power sector primary energy consumption equaled 2.8 quadrillion Btu, a 5-percent decrease from April 2011. The electric power sector accounted for 38 percent of primary energy consumption.
The MER provides monthly and annual data on total energy production, consumption, and trade; energy prices; overviews of petroleum, natural gas, coal, electricity, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and international petroleum; carbon dioxide emissions; and data unit conversions.
