Governor Parnell Orders Flags Lowered for Representative Heinze

July 11, 2012, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell has ordered state flags to fly at half-staff on Friday, July 13, in honor and memory of former Representative Cheryll Heinze. The former Anchorage legislator died in a plane crash Tuesday. She was 65.

“Sandy and I were saddened to learn of the news of Representative Heinze’s passing,” Governor Parnell said. “She was a dedicated legislator who cared deeply for Alaska. Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, Harold, her family, colleagues and friends.”

Heinze served one term in the Alaska State Legislature representing Anchorage from 2003 – 2004. She also served as a deputy commissioner for the Alaska Department of Natural Resources. Heinze, who was an artist, belonged to many organizations including the Alaska Chamber of Commerce, Anchorage Symphony League and Breast Cancer Focus, Inc.

Flags will be lowered on Friday and raised to full-staff the following morning.
