Governor Honors Service of Fallen JBER Soldier
July 17, 2012, Juneau, Alaska – Governor Sean Parnell offered his condolences to the family and friends of Staff Sergeant Carl E. Hammar, who died Saturday in Afghanistan. Staff Sergeant Hammar, 24, died of injuries sustained when his patrol was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire.
“Staff Sergeant Hammar served our country with honor and pride,” Governor Parnell said. “Sandy and I extend our sympathies to his family and fellow soldiers, and ask Alaskans to keep them in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
Staff Sergeant Hammar was assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
