Begich Statement on Lifting of F-22 Flight Limits
U.S. Sen. Mark Begich, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement after news today that the Air Force will begin to lift flight restrictions on the F-22 stealth fighter jet.
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced the Air Force has identified the oxygen depletion incidents experienced by several pilots was the result of clothing and valve issues. After taking corrective action, the Air Force will begin easing the restrictions that have grounded the fleet for months.
“I’m pleased to hear the F-22, our nation’s greatest fighter, is expected to return to flight over the coming months. I support the Air Force’s plan which includes incremental steps to ensure the safety of our pilots before full fleet flight restrictions are lifted.
“I am especially pleased about all of the precautions being taken before the two squadrons of F-22’s from J-BER resume the Air Alert Mission in Alaska. Our Arctic Airmen’s safety is paramount.”
