Battelle Expands into Alaskan Market by Hiring Ted Rockwell and Opening Anchorage Office
ANCHORAGE, Alaska-Ted Rockwell, long a recognized expert in Alaskan environmental issues, has joined Battelle, the world's largest, independent research and development organization. Rockwell is on point to lead the expansion of Battelle's environmental business in the Alaskan market, with a priority focus on the oil and gas industry. Rockwell will head up the recently opened downtown office at 1007 Third Ave. as a senior project manager and will lead efforts to develop and manage multi-faceted technical projects for Battelle. Battelle has conducted work in Alaska for more than 35 years including oil spill consulting, environmental baseline programs, pipeline integrity and safety studies, wildlife and fisheries assessments and oceanographic modeling. "We've teamed with organizations in Alaska for years," said Mark Curran, who leads the Environmental Assessment and Monitoring business for Battelle's Energy, Environment and Material Sciences division. "We think the time is right to have a permanent presence close to our customers so we can better deliver science-based solutions to these important issues. And Ted is the perfect guy to lead this effort; we're pleased to have him aboard." Rockwell joins Battelle after a long and distinguished career with the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) where he served from 1994 as Senior Advisor, Alaska Oil and Gas Sector, for EPA's Alaska Operations Office. His various appointments have included Representative for Alaska to the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission for Alaska as well as for the EPA; member of the Arctic Offshore Oil and Gas Environmental Effects Expert Group for the U.S. Department of Energy; a member of the U.S. State Department delegation to the Arctic Council, and most recently he served in the Office of the President, Council on Environmental Quality on its report on the Macondo oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
