Representative Kawasaki to Legislative Academy(Fairbanks) - Representative Scott Kawasaki was selected to attend the Council of State Governments-West (CSG-WEST) Western Legislative Academy (WLA). The Western Legislative Academy will take place July 12th thru July 15th in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Representative Kawasaki will share ideas and policies to strengthen state governments with other state legislators from western states. Representative Kawasaki participated in a selection process that limits the attendance to the Academy to only two or three lawmakers per state. Representative Kawasaki will be joined by Rep. Bryce Edgmon (D-Dillingham) and Rep. Bob Herron (D-Bethel).
"I am honored to be selected to this year’s class of legislators.” Kawasaki said. “It is a great opportunity to share the bold steps Alaska has taken in energy policy, our natural gasline and other issues that impact our nation.”The WLA provides training and resources to help legislators become more effective in building stronger state legislative institutions. The WLA brings together a faculty of outstanding academics, nationally known corporate and public trainers to work with a small class of lawmakers who come from 13 western states. Members of the Academy are selected on the basis of their dedication to public service, desire to improve effectiveness and commitment to the institution of the legislature. “Alaska should lead the nation on energy issues.” Kawasaki said. “It’s the job of the legislature to enact policies that would push Alaska to the forefront of energy efficiency and production technology.” The Council of State Governments is a national non-profit that fosters the exchange of insights and ideas to help state officials shape public policy. Tuition and expenses will be paid for by the CSG.
